Diesel puts holograms into fashion perspective
Shoals of fish and tumbling sea urchins are not familiar accessories on a fashion runway. But by the time a snaking sea creature was made up of wrist watches, Diesel had made a statement with its dive into the deep.
It was all done with holograms, projected on an ultrafine scrim. They created an oceanic setting for the sand-beige sportswear, the hooded tops, taut trench coats, crunchy knits and skinny pants, as Diesel staged its extravaganza at the Pitti Immagine Uomo fair.

Ethic 2007 winners announced
Three students from Cleveland College of Design and Communication have won Ethic 2007, a new design competition which staged its final at the Fashion and Textile Museum in SE1 on Thursday, June 28.
Madame Noir design team
Twelve teams of students featuring up to three members each, entered the competition via the UK Skills website. All entrants submitted a portfolio outlining their ideas for an ethical outfit. An expert panel then selected five finalists and each team was given £100 and just two weeks to manufacture their design. The biggest challenge several of them told us, was sourcing fair trade and organic fabric. Some went down the recycling route and the innovative Three Twix's (named after their favourite chocolate bar) used only recycled materials and spent just £4.50 on materials.

In Paris, Fairy Tales With a Global Flair
GIORGIO ARMANI has never made a convincing stab at haute couture, the major leagues of fashion. His clothes always seem stiff and out of touch. Still, none of the other couture shows last week produced that degree of public awe.
