A guide to fall fashion goods for boys and girls
    FOR GIRLS

All mixed up: Eclectic is the defining adjective for this fall's aesthetic. Young ladies are mixing and matching prints, colors and styles, incorporating elements from the '60s, '70s, '80s and '90s. Don't be afraid to experiment, mixing high-end and low-end pieces to your heart's -- and budget's -- content.

Layering, color key in back-to-school fashion
Mix it up, pile it on, make it yours.

This back-to-school season, it's easier than ever to score a trendy look with a personal edge and still stick to a budget. With layering and a cleaned-up "neo-grunge" look leading the way, teens can experiment with color, texture and style -- and get away with a bit of artistic license.

Forget the old rules. Want to pair plaids and prints? Go for it. Trying for a preppy punk look? Have at it. The key is to stay in the same color family and strive for a style that is uniquely "you."

Fashion on a budget: You d never know by looking at her
    Let's face it. You're broke.

Or close to it. I know I was when I was in college. And now that I'm a recent college grad, things aren't that much different. Sure, I could cut back on food or wine, but let's not get carried away. I need my brie and pinot grigio.

What I also need? Clothes. And shoes. Cute shoes.

    Luxury goes to Hollywood
Time was when couturiers recoiled at the thought of dressing anyone so vulgar as a film star. Now they fall over themselves to give celebrities thousands of pounds' worth of freebies. So what changed? In this final extract from her new book, Dana Thomas reveals how a cosy - and sometimes unseemly - alliance between designers, actresses and their stylists came to exist

Fall fashion 07: Season for glamour
Deflate your trapeze dresses and pull up your pants. Check out old movies starring Katharine Hepburn and Veronica Lake and study - really study - their glamour factor. Find your best shade of gray and ask yourself if you're confident enough to walk out the door in white tights or a hat that isn't about protecting yourself from the weather.

    Pretty pieces in plus sizes
Deborah Friedman is like so many women in the fashion business these days.

When she couldn't find what she wanted in stores, she decided to sell it herself. In June, Friedman opened Plussizeplum.com, a Durham-based Web site selling better lingerie for larger women.

Tom Julians favorite fashion, lifestyle trends
Here are Tom Julian's favorite fashion, style and lifestyle trends in recent years:

    1. Casualization that began in the early '90s, its impact on the way people dress and the emergence of sportswear and casual Friday attire in the workplace.

    2. Eco-chic over the past two years in which consumers all have a social conscience, and the apparel world responds with everything from green stores to green products.

10 Fall Fashion Classics You Need to Own
Here's why we love the fitted jacket:

    * A great tailored jacket -- fitted to show off feminine curves, not a baggy masculine style -- will pair with everything from work trousers to jeans.
    * A jacket adds structure to your figure: gives curvy girls more angular lines, creates waistlines for boyish figure types and smooths out lumps and bumps for all shapes.
    * You can choose traditional fall jacket fabrics like tweed, corduroy, denim or menswear plaids; you can also go luxe with velvet, leather, brocade.

Where life meets style — Fashioning fall
i have some juicy news to report! As some of you might know, the Mall of America is in the midst of deals to expand its already mega-watt space. One of the ideas that's pretty much a for-sure is a high-end retail addition. Burberry already signed on, and rumor has it, Versace is next! The design house's creative director was recently spotted in the mall. vita.mn got confirmation from MOA's public relations people that it WAS a Versace rep (not that swarthy Donatella, though), but no news on whether boutique plans were finalized.

Islamic fashion set to be the Next Big Thing
Picture "women's Islamic dress." If you imagined a plain, black burqa, or even a black abaya accompanied by a niqab, you may be envisaging an outfit that could soon be a relic of the past. That's because the Islamic women's fashion industry around the world is taking off—in a big way. Aside from introducing abayas decorated with crystal beads, pearls, embroidery, satin flowers and other colorful adornments, designers are introducing dramatic new styles, fabrics, and colors to Islamic dress. For instance, British designer Sophia Kara offers an outfit composed of a "hooded abaya with a matching niqab, or face veil, in shocking pink over a salwar, or loose pants, printed with an ornate English floral motif" as part of her Imaan Collections. High-end designers including Hermés and Gucci are also trying to break into the Muslim market with scarves and other products.

The fairytale faded but Dianas dress still fascinates
THE dress is composed of hundreds of metres of the finest, handwoven ivory silk taffeta and tulle, antique lace stitched with pure gold thread, embroidery garnished with more than 10,000 pearls and mother-of-pearl sequins. It has not been worn since July 29, 1981.

The wedding dress of Diana, Princess of Wales, was released from its hermetically-sealed crate in Sydney yesterday for the opening of an exhibition likely to be the most popular ever seen at the Powerhouse Museum.

The Color Purple: Fashions Bright Idea For Fall
The color is ubiquitous in fall clothes, and no wonder. It's flattering in many shades and is friendly to most skin tones, hair colors and ages. As a mailer from Barneys New York Co-op -- the more casual division of fashion arbiter Barneys -- declared "purple is the new black."

How to Dress for the Business World
Treat your business clothing as an investment and choose wisely. Make sure you buy classic styles that suit your body shape, are comfortable, have quality workmanship and quality material. This is no time to try the latest fads. Take your time and shop around for the best price and the best service. Be aware of the return policy and if possible purchase your wardrobe items at a store that can do professional alternations if necessary

    The epitome of glamour?
Glamour is not about what you wear, but how you wear it, says style bible Vogue. It has named the Queen as one of the world's most glamorous women. So what can Her Majesty teach us about glamour? She's got a clothes budget the average woman can only dream of, outfits designed and made especially for her and the odd little jewel and trinket to accessorise any ensemble.

    A very fine vintage
Not so long ago the fastest way to update your wardrobe was, ironically, by throwing in something old and a bit tatty - a 1940s tea dress from your gran's wardrobe, a 1950s cashmere cardigan from a charity shop or a retro brooch you bought for 50p at a car boot sale.

But now vintage is everywhere it's a different story.
