Tennis-star sisters are fashion winners, too
On the tennis court, Venus and Serena Williams attack their opponents with an unmatchable zeal, but each sister brings to the game a style all her own. Off the court, the championship-dominating sisters share a similar zeal for fashion. And just like during tennis matches, the two express their flair for fashion in different ways.

Meteorologists Shape Fashion Trends
In the capricious world of fashion, where hemlines, fabrics and colors fall in and out of favor with breathtaking speed, designers and retailers have always relied on one constant — the orderly changing of the seasons.

5 hot fashion trends for '08
Fashion house Balenciaga featured models draped in them during its fall 2007 fashion show. Hermes just unveiled a smaller and less expensive ($280 compared to $325) version of its traditional printed square. At American Apparel, $15 jersey scarves are among the top-selling items, aided by an in-store video that shows shoppers how to tie, wrap and drape to their hearts' content.

What's hot for fashion? Velvet
Soft, slinky, warm and shiny, velvet might be what winter fashion is all about. "It's made a comeback, but considering the time of year, velvet is also a very traditional, very luxurious, very holiday fabric," said Amy Cafazzo, style expert for Marshall's stores.

The velvet revolution
I've always thought there's something very Christmassy about velvet; at its best, softly luxurious and cosseting, but at worst, cheap and synthetic and depressing. For, like Christmas, velvet is supposed to be special (and as magical as The Velveteen Rabbit), yet can veer towards disaster.

2007: The year in fashion
Is fashion always so hysterical or has 2007 been a particularly giddy year? Back in the spring barely a week seemed to pass without a fashion riot making the news. We've come to expect them at Topshop. But Primark? Sainsbury's?

Sequins add shimmer to season
In a holiday season devoid of must-have items and with the economy putting many shoppers in a gloomy mood, retailers have discovered a bright spot, literally.
Stores from Saks Fifth Avenue to J.C. Penney are swimming in sequins. A little glitter is standard fare for holiday parties, to be sure, but this is no cocktail-party phenomenon. The shimmery discs are on dresses, tank tops, headbands, swimsuits, sweatshirts, pumps, shawls, hats, handbags and even sneakers

Pretty in pink? Not always
Colour trends can start in the most surprising ways. Last month, the world's longest-serving monarch, the popular King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand, came out of hospital sporting a pink blazer and T-shirt. Royal astrologists told him it would be an auspicious colour since he was born in the Year of the Rabbit. Pink shirts quickly became Thailand's must-have fashion item. The Phufa fashion chain sold 40,000 to loyal subjects who lined up around the block for hours

Jennifer Lopez could sue Hilfiger over Sweetface
According to the NY Daily News, Jennifer Lopez could be planning to take legal action against Andy Hilfiger, brother of Tommy. The pair had worked together on Lopez' Sweetface label, launched in 2005 after a lot of hype during New York Fashion Week, but did not take off and the pair parted ways in 2006. A source told the NY Daily News that if Lopez were to sue Hilfiger, he could file one right back for the losses both incurred.

Knitwear makes a comeback
IF YOU’RE dreading opening granny’s present this year and finding another garishly printed “Alan Partridge”-style jumper, don’t worry – this year it might just be fashionable. Chunky knitwear patterned with snowflakes and reindeer are no longer fashion faux pas, to be hidden under the bed and only brought out next time you’re going to a fancy dress party as Bridget Jones’s Mark Darcy.

Fashion crystal ball 2008
There's an old adage that unless you understand the past, you're condemned to repeat it. It's certainly true when it comes to errors in fashion judgment. That's why it's often wise to revisit the ghosts of red carpets past in order to avoid making the same mistakes again.

Fashion's Top 10 stories
When the "it'' bag of the moment is an $18 canvas tote touting "I'm not a plastic bag," you might think the tide of fashion has turned decidedly green. And it has, to a point.
The rise of eco-friendly fashion is surely the top trend of the year. But fashion fans also mobbed H&M for cheap, made-in-China togs from Italian designer Roberto Cavalli, king of glitz and glam. And luxury giants like LVMH were racking up double-digit growth, largely through the sale of the fragments of dreams that are handbags and perfume. Scarlett Johansson and Catherine Deneuve flog the ubiquitous LV monogram bags in glossy ads, and people buy them, real or knockoff.

Year in fashion: Worst trends
The greatest fashion success of 2007 might be the elimination of waist-skimming shirts. Across the board, hemlines fell to the hips to cover thongs and boxers alike, which should've happened about six years ago.

What were the worst fashion trends of 2007?
Trend watching can be a strange business. How exactly does one explain the way a humble tulip skirt or pair of wide-leg jeans becomes a bona fide Look of the Moment? The trickle-down theory (from runway to reality) once had currency, but trends travel in all directions: from high to low, sure, but also from sidewalk to catwalk to red carpet to clearance rack. So how can you tell which of 2007's trends will still pack a punch this spring and beyond? Follow my highly unscientific guide to fashion's good, bad and unspeakably hideous.

Wardrobe-Worthy Denim Alternatives
he days of designer denim are numbered.

Fashion resolutions for 2008
THE thing with New Year resolutions is more often than not, you never keep them, give up after half-hearted attempts or totally forget what they are in the first place. The trick I believe, is making them fun and reasonable enough so that it won’t tax you so much.
So in the spirit of making resolutions, I’m going to make a list of style resolutions for the year. However, some of the things on this list may hurt the budget, but hey, like I always say, brands aren’t everything, so always choose what makes you feel your best.
