Outerwear Trends 2006/07
Brands have pushed both style and technology to the limit to create unique and edgy styles for customers who want to stand out on the slopes. At the same time, styles do double duty—working just as well on the street. The main thing is, people want to look different, whether it’s through fabric differentiation, prints, or custom artwork.

White dresses refresh fashions color palette
Move over, virgins. Out of the way, christening gowns. Little white dresses are more than Western symbols of purity; they're the new staple of every fashionista's wardrobe.
From traditional bridal gowns to little-girl Easter attire, white dresses have long been fashion code for innocence and purity. Though several designers from haute to hoofer gave a nod to the old classic a few seasons ago, the frock's versatility and springtime hue has made it the new little black dress - a warhorse of every woman's wardrobe

Swimwear to flatter your figure
There's nothing quite as soul-destroying as watching the summer's to-die-for bikini shimmying along the beach on a taut and toned body that's the antithesis of yours. This woman doesn't have swimwear neuroses, nor does she understand the concept of having to make do with the only style that fits. And she certainly doesn't have to worry about making a swift dash from lounger to pool when no one's looking.

Skull skulks way to fashion fad
Being bad to the bone may prove good for the bottom line.
Hoping to capitalize on the "skull chic" trend — as well as Friday's release of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest — marketers are plastering skulls, with or without crossbones, on everything from T-shirts and belts to dinner plates and jewelry.

The bikini: Not a brief affair
It may be itsy bitsy, but there is no doubt the bikini has had a huge impact on popular culture, changing the world of fashion like few other garments.

Fall style: Surprise role reversal welcomes roomy tops and skinny bottoms
Like Newton's apple falling back up that tree, fall fashion has gone topsy-turvy. This gravitational shift won't stop the normal procession of the fall season, but oversize cardigans and coats on top, paired with tight leggings or skinny jeans below, promise to keep things afloat.
In a large white tent adjacent to the Chicago History Museum, 400 people watched this fashion reversal recently at the Nordstrom Designer Preview fashion show, which raised $50,000 for the Costume Council of the Chicago Historical Society.

Leggings with a kick
I did it once. And like a bad relationship, I will never, ever go back. I'm talking about leggings, and how I feel about their unrelenting comeback from what seemed like a fashionista fad in the spring to what's expected to be one of the biggest fashion accessories of the fall.

Weather says summer, fashion says fall
As Merritt Island resident Rebecca Bond sifted through rows of swimsuits at Ron Jon Surf Shop in Cocoa Beach, she asked, "where else can I find a bikini at this time of year?"
Fall officially begins Sept. 23, but most retail stores received their fall lines in mid-June and already have disposed of all swimwear and summery looks comfortable enough for Central Florida's sizzling temperatures. Racks are filled with snug sweaters and crisp, dark denim. Mannequins are dressed in this fall's trendiest colors and styles.

Fashionably French
Even back in the 18th century, France was recognized as the leader in fashion. Accessories and outfits from Paris were widely regarded as the epitome of stylishness. Today, Paris is home to haute couture with its numerous internationally renowned design houses.
In line with this, French Connection Philippines 2006 was recently held in Alliance Francaise in Belair to promote studying in France, especially for those interested in pursuing fashion or design. The event kicked-off with a talk on fashion design and fashion merchandising by fashion designer Lulu Tan-Gan. Tan-Gan has earned the moniker as “Queen of Knits.” She continues to assist in the professionalism of the fashion industry in the Philippines. Also sharing tips on fashion was a special guest all the way from Paris. Alfed Madhavy, founder and vice president of Mod’Art, one of France’s most celebrated fashion and design schools, talked about trends in haute couture.

Fashion Authority: Girl group shops for back-to-school
The squeals came fast and furious: Omigod. Omigod! O . . . mi . . . god!!!
Oh my God, indeed.
The cause of the squeals was a frenetic (read: pass the Valium) back-to-school shopping excursion with Girl Authority, the teenybopper cover group from Metrowest Boston.
The group, a sort of Village People meets Spice Girls, has nine members, ranging in age from 8 to 14. Eight of the nine - Gina, Carly, Zoe, Jess, Tarr, Crystal, Jacqueline and Kate - showed up at the Natick Mall Monday evening to search for the season’s must-have clothes and accessories. First stop was Club Libby Lu, Land of the Pink and Sparkly.

Swimming hats
Hard to believe, but there once was a time when going to the sea, or enjoying the pool, didn’t automatically mean windsurfing, wetbiking or splashing about on a lilo. There was one particularly good reason for that.

We’re talking hair, a constant source of worry in the days before conditioners, mousses and all the other aids that we take for granted today. It had to be protected from the ravages of sun, salt and sand, which meant squeezing it into a tightly fitting rubber helmet, with or without enormous rubber flowers attached, or tucking it in safely under a large headscarf.

The art of fashion for autumn and winter
Is fashion art? It's the big question that has long been the subject of great debate and while the definitive answer may never be forthcoming, one thing is certain; right now, art is definitely fashionable.
Open any glossy magazine and you¡¯ll find yourself pondering the serendipity of some fashionably arty item. Boutiques look more like art galleries. Must-have shoes look more like a Damien Hurst installation than something to go for a walk in.
