    Hispanic Fashion Designers
Many credit fashion trends to Italian and French designers. No one can deny the influence and contributions that the French and Italian designers have made in the fashion industry. But some of the most common names in the fashion scene as well as some of the most influential designers are in fact Hispanic or from Latin America. So who are the Hispanic Designers? I am sure you are familiar with the names. What are the contributions to the industry? When I mention the names I am sure you will know some of their contributions. As I go through the impressive list, I will tell a brief story of each designer and their contributions to fashion as we know it today.

Fall Fashion: The runway, your way
Designers have said goodbye to feminine flounces, neon colors and sparkly accents.

Marking the end of a fashion cycle that debuted with the new millennium and reflected the optimism of a once-booming economy, fashion houses have closed the door on boho skirts, tangerine tank tops and strappy sandals. Now, muted gray, navy, burgundy and black are dominating the fall color palette in a fashion tone-down that started last year and has shifted into overdrive. Designers are also featuring military styling, towering platform boots and '80s-flashbacks -- multiple layers such as cocoon tops and tunics paired with skinny pants and leggings.

Predicting the new shape of fall fashion
The fashion industry apparently is ready to forget and forgive: Longtime nemesis the Legging has been welcomed back by women who are changing their uniform to tunic tops and slim bottoms.

It started on the runways, with Ralph Lauren showing loden green knit leggings under a cozy cable-knit wrap and Derek Lam pairing gray ones with a trapeze-shape coat.

Every Fall the Fashion Landscape Changes. Which Trends Work for You
Late summer the stress begins. What do I need to buy for fall and what can I continue to wear that I already own? Most importantly, which trends do I know won't work on me and which ones can I embrace openly? Everywhere you turn, there are conflicting reports on the new "it" trends of the season. Fortunately, I love culling the fall fashions as much as I do breathing, so I have done the research for you.

The color scheme for Fall '06-'07 is a little murky, and by that I mean the color palette. Black is back as is brown, gray, moss, navy and white. There are punches of color like red and deep yellow. Metallics are still hot, but in smaller doses, so opt for either shoes, a belt or a handbag and make it antique'y gold.

Mini v maxi: which cuts it for you
It was only after a rather embarrassing incident involving a star jump, a ripped skirt and a group of sniggering boys that I realised the virtues of miniskirts. They don’t restrict movement and are back in fashion.

Fall Fashion: An Overview and Ten Must Haves
With nods to grunge, boyish charm, Mod, and punk rock, Fall 2006 brings us clothing and silhouettes with a somber yet undeniable sophistication. Fabrics such as black lace and thick knits hint at luxury. Plaids are unisex and not too sweet. Layers are thoughtful – not sloppy and indiscriminate. And colors, while dark and inky, get an energizing boost from animal prints, shots of orange and red, and bold gold accessories.

Fashion trends: Updated styles evident in clothes this school year
There is far more to "hot" fashion in local schools in fall 2006 than meets the eye.

    Temperatures are sizzling too.

"I do jeans and a comfortable shirt," Artie Skinner, 16, a junior at Fort Frye High School in Beverly, said. "I'm not an American Eagle or Aeropostale kind of guy. I'm not into that. I dress in whatever is comfortable, whatever I think looks good."

    Romantic Paris Fall Fashions
Alexander McQueen proved to Paris that his design can stand on its own dramatically erotic strengths. Showing in the shadowy medieval vaulted hall of the Conciergerie, McQueen couldn't resist a lone, macabre trick—a vista of a pack of caged wolves, and the opening image of a lone figure clad in a purple leather cape leading a pair of dogs (who looked more scared than scary). But that was just for old times' sake. When his models stalked out in brown tweed, tailored to within an inch of their lives, and strapped into variations on brown leather braces, it was clear McQueen was concentrating on clothes and not theatrics. His vixenish women had tiny-waisted silhouettes done with amazing attention to cut and detail.

    Little black tennis dress
These days, a good sense of style seems just as important a tool for tennis stars as good racquets and sneakers.

The U.S. Open, which runs through Sept. 10 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, in Queens, is an opportunity for the Maria Sharapovas and Andy Roddicks of the world -- and their sponsors -- to show off what they think is the latest and greatest in athletic wear, beauty products and even home design.

    Trendy, not spendy
Cheap and easy isn't always bad. In fashion, at least. The smartest way to buy some wardrobe staples — T-shirts, tank tops, camisoles, ballet flats, polo shirts, belts, costume jewelry — is to get them from stores like Target, Wal-Mart, Old Navy and Claire's. They sell perfectly serviceable clothes and accessories that look good, can take a beating (however briefly) and can be discarded without one scintilla of guilt because they cost so little.

    A glimpse of spring
Punxsutawney Phil predicted the arrival of an early spring. While the weather outside might indicate otherwise, it looks as if the groundhog is on target at St. Louis area stores, where fashion is blooming with new spring designs.

In the next few weeks, expect to see several fashion stories on these pages highlighting spring trends. But as a preview to what is big this season, we went to those in the know at local department stores and boutiques. Here’s what tops their lists of must-haves:
